Avalanche awareness and off piste safety training day

Skiing off-piste is a lot of fun in a group or as a family, but it does come with risk.

To help you and your children enjoy your powder time more, we are running our annual an avalanche awareness & off-piste safety day.

Avalanch training day itinerary

Morning session: 09h30 – 12h00

Arrive at the Fontaine Blanche restaurant in Morgins for a briefing with your instructor and a complimentary coffee and croissant.

The morning session will be split into three parts;

1. Theory and use of transceivers and probes. How to use them, how to search using them for victims caught in an avalanche.

2. Theory of and practical of how to safely ski with a group off piste, general Avalanche risk factors and how to mitigate them.

3. General tips on off piste skiing and areas for personal development.

Lunch: 12h00 - 13h00

Afternoon session: 13h30- 15h00

The will contain three parts;

1. Snow theory. What happens to snow after it falls and how the snow settles down into the snowpack.

2. Snowpack practical. We will go outside and dig some snowpits to learn how to do this and look at the different layers within the snowpack.

3. General tips on off piste skiing and areas for personal development.

You will be provided with shovels, probes and transceiver equipment. We will be providing backpacks, probes and shovels and transceivers for around 1 between 2 which will be sufficient for our needs.

You are welcome to bring your own equipment should you have it and/or a backpack if you have anything else specific you want to bring but if you do have your own equipment, please let us know.
